Canada Fly in Fishing Trips

The flight in is just one of the thrills!

Just the words “Canada Fly in Fishing” are able to take most fishermen into a Zen-like trance where visions of wide open spaces, easy fishing, and pristine waters abound! Visions of remote locations where seeing another person isn’t just rare, it’s non existent, and the waters look like you could just reach in with your hands and pull out fish!  Solitude, amazing scenery and great fishing make Canada fly in fishing a must do for all avid fishermen.

Canada fly in fishing is the epitome of what we all envision a great fishing trip to be like,  and the bonus to this type of trip is that you can have all of the perks of fly in fishing in just about any remote location, and for a multitude of fish species.

Do it yourself or an outfitter?

In the world of Canada fly in fishing trips there are two different approaches to spending your time in the back woods, you can do it yourself or utilize a lodge/outfitter.

Do it Yourself Fly in Trips

Many anglers have camping gear, stoves, cots etc, and the knowledge that it takes to spend several days in a remote area and are able to be very self sufficient at managing their camping and meals.  Anglers such as these just need an air service to fly them and their equipment out to the predetermined fishing site and pick them up later.

Air services are familiar with requests for trips such as these and are often willing to provide help in planning your trip.  I highly recommend contacting air services that operate in the area that you are considering, do this during your pre-planning stage.  These air services can provide invaluable insight that will help you plan your trip and by asking them the right questions you can avoid a lot of heartache regarding your trip.

Air services have intimate knowledge of the area you will be staying in and can often give you information on the fishing, weather, fishing pressure and many other things that can seriously affect your trip.

Questions to ask air services for your Canada fly in fishing trip:

  • How many passengers can you take?
  • What is the maximum amount of weight that a passenger can have for his luggage?  What is the additional charge per pound/kilogram?
  • Does the package include a “check flight” and/or radio contact sometime during the trip to make sure your party is ok?
  • What is the plan if bad weather keeps the plane from arriving on time to pick you up?
  • Is there any equipment you can rent from the air service such as stoves or cots?
  • What is the booking process?
  • Does the air service foresee an increase in their prices between the time of your booking and the time of your flight?  (You man want to ask about increases in fuel costs as well.)
  • What time of year do they think is the best?

Do it your self fly in fishing can be very rewarding and can often save you money on your trip, but keep in mind this type of trip isn’t for everyone.  Handling all of your own logistics, camping, and contingencies can really make what is supposed to be a fun fishing trip into a lot of work, but once you have done it, each time after that should be easier.  I highly recommend taking along a friend that has been on a trip such as this, there is just no substitute for personal experience.

Outfitter/Lodge Fly in Fishing Trips

When you’re booking your adventure with an outfitter you are going to pay a little more then a do it yourself trip but in my opinion the extra money spent booking your trip with an outfitter is well worth it.  The outfitters professional experience, knowledge and ability to make your fishing trip the trip of a lifetime is well worth the extra money.
